Just a short drive north of Nashville, you will enter the rolling foothills of the Appalachians. Tucked among these river and valleys is the quaint town of Springfield, Tennessee. Springfield is the perfect country location for your wedding. This small community set among historic tobacco farms will charm and delight you.
Farmland dominates the surrounding scenery. Farms that date back to colonial times still exist in some places. Take a horse for a trail ride, learn how the farms operate, or go for a beautiful country drive. Check out the Norton family farm for monthly team ranch sorting competitions. They also offer free workshops where you can learn how to read, sort, and herd cattle. Visit the Honeysuckle Hill Farm for tours and educational programs. Visit after 10pm and you'll be guided through a series of haunted attractions.
History
One of the most prominent historical buildings in Springfield is The Russell House. Designed in the Colonial Revival style, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Julia Russell, daughter of a prominent local tobacco salesman Col. William Henry Simmons, married Wilfred Russell, a Canadian businessman, in 1925. Wilfred soon moved to Springfield to enter the tobacco business. While he was hard at work, Julia purchased over 70 acres of land and constructed their house in 1935. Tour the house and explore its sweeping grounds for a taste of local history.
Music
Springfield is home to a rich musical tradition. The Springfield Guitar Company is located right downtown on Main Street. The store is a hub of activity: it employs 20 instructors and conducts over 300 lessons per week.
Nashville
The crown jewel of Tennessee is just a thirty minute drive away. Home to the Grand Ole Opry House, Nashville is the country music capitol of the South. Hundreds of amazing musicians have emerged from and spent meaningful time in this city such as Gregg and Duane Allman, Roy Acuff, J.J. Cale, Pat Boone, Johnny Cash, June Carter, Patsy Cline, Sheryl Crow, Lester Flatt, Bela Fleck, Peter Frampton, and Donna Summer to name a few. It's hard to overstate the rich history of Nashville.
While in town, don't miss the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Country music fans will be able to view a huge array of memorabilia from their favorite stars, tour the RCA studio, and check out the Ryman Auditorium. If that isn't enough, the Johnny Cash Museum is just across town.
For beer lovers, the Yazoo Brewery can be found on Division Street. Tours are available on Saturdays, and they'll get you a taste of the beer and your very own pint glass. Yazoo beer can be tasted otherwise in the tap room and at several local bars and restaurants.
If you're looking for a quiet wedding in the country, with some excitement nearby, Springfield is the place for you. This quaint town in the beautiful rolling hills of Tennessee will accommodate your friends and family, and with Nashville nearby, no one will need to look far for entertainment.
